In a new, off-season special, First Presbyterian Church's East Texas Pipe Organ Festival will host a three-feature silent film festival May 31 through June 2 with a finale recital Sunday, June 3.
The pipe organ festival's silent movies are the annual crowd-pleaser each November as the festival features local Aeolian-Skinner organs designed by Kilgore's Roy Perry. Current First Presbyterian Organist & Choirmaster Lorenz Maycher is keeping the upcoming vintage-entertainment free and open-to-the-public, too.
First up: “Steamboat Bill, Jr.” features silent film star Buster Keaton at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 31. Harold Loyd takes the silver screen in “Safety Last” at 8 p.m. June 1 then Keaton returns in “The Cameraman” at 8 p.m. June 2.
The three comedies will feature theater organist Clark Wilson, returning to Kilgore after accompanying the silent movie in the 2017 organ festival.
An as-yet-unannounced organist will perform a recital at 3 p.m. June 3 and additional events are in the works to attract out-of-town guests and locals to the church.
