Classics hit silver screen at Stonybrook
Beginning next Monday you can see classic movies on a big screen at old-fashioned prices.
The Silver Screen Classics program, presented at 1 p.m. every Monday at Showcase Stonybrook, features Hollywood legends, including Judy Garland and Fred Astaire.
For $2, you get popcorn, a drink and a vintage movie at the theater, 2745 S. Hurstbourne Parkway. Here's a look at the schedule:
May 5 -- "The Perils of Pauline," a 1947 musical comedy starring Betty Hutton as a garment worker who gets a chance to act on stage and in the movies. The film is based on the life of Pearl White, star of silent movie serials.
May 12 -- "Till the Clouds Roll By." Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra lead an all-star cast in this 1946 musical that tells the life story of Broadway songwriter Jerome Kern. The movie is filled with Kern's compositions, including a medley of songs from "Showboat."
May 19 -- "Royal Wedding." In this 1951 musical directed by Stanley Donen, Fred Astaire dances on ceilings and walls when he and his sister, played by Jane Powell, travel to London for the wedding of Princess Elizabeth.
