Albany, NY: CITY LIGHTS

Unread post by dr.giraud » Thu May 08, 2008 12:13 pm

Friday, May 9, 7:30 PM at the University at Albany's Page Hall (Downtown Campus, 135 Western Ave., Albany): Charles Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS.

The press release says it's in 35MM, but be warned--there's live musical accompaniment by the single worst "pianist" I've ever heard play for a silent film. To paraphrase Sig Rumann, what he did to THE MAN WHO LAUGHS and PASSION, the Nazis did to Poland.

Interesting that this should be posted under 'Talkie Screening.'

Well, it technically should be a "talkie" screening. Unfortunately, they're going to turn off the soundtrack and let someone play along.

Which makes me wonder. Doesn't the Chaplin estate frown on this sort of thing--messing with Chaplin's intentions?

Yes, if they find out about the show via a posting or published news story.
