Added Attraction For
Sons of the Desert Viewing
Live Performance By Laurel & Hardy Imitators

Dennis Carter, left and Edmund Tester, far right, will play Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in a special live performance during the Aug. 14 7:00 p.m. presentation of Sons of the Desert at the Massapequa Bar Harbour library. Frank Bohl, a Sons of Desert tent member is pictured in the middle.

On Thursday, Aug. 14, as part of John Carpenter's continuing program of classic films held monthly at the Massapequa Park Bar Harbour Library, local residents will view a performance of Sons of the Desert.

There will be presentations at both 1:30 and 7:00 p.m. at the library, itself located at 40 Harbour Lane.

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy will grace the screen in their laughathon 1933 feature. But Carpenter has an added surprise for the 7:00 p.m. presentation.

Local Long Island Sons of the Desert will be in attendance in Fez wearing regalia led by Dwain Smith of Franklin Square and Larry Wolff of Islip to explain why worldwide actual Sons of the Desert lodges have come to exist.

But the live performance of laughter, insight and song does not end there, as longtime Sons' members, Edmund Tester and Dennis Carter, will come dressed as Laurel & Hardy and perform live one of Laurel and Hardy's comedy routines.

In all, the viewings are a tribute to the long-standing popularity of the famous comedy duo. More specifically, Smith and Wolff will note that Laurel & Hardy's innocent, childlike antics remain as fresh and as funny today as they were during both the Roaring 1920s and the Depression 1930s. As Jody Brower, the library's program director states, this program will give all who attend and all those husbands who have tried to outsmart their wives, the laugh of their lives.
