I recently completed digitizing the eight 78 rpm sides of the 1932 Victor recording of Ferde Grofe's GRAND CANYON SUITE. I then applied audio restoration software but with no added reverb or artificial ambiance. He orchestrated the work to suit Paul Whiteman's band for which he had worked for many years. Grofe was well acquainted with each of the musicians and tailored his score to match their talents. He later re-orchestrated the work for a full symphony orchestra and it is that version by which it is most commonly heard today. The Beau Hunks band recently performed the "Whiteman" version on CD but here is the original and very first recording of Grofe's most popular composition:
