He sees our history disappearing because of lack of hardware to view digital information, or seeing it changed or altered with upgrades to new formats.

Or use film in the first place.

Over at the Film Photography Project (http://filmphotographyproject.com), whose podcast I listen to every 2 weeks, they have referred to our time as the "digital dark age" for exactly this reason.
