Playhouse 90

Unread post by TheThinMan » Fri Jan 17, 2014 10:07 pm

I am looking for copies of PLAYHOUSE 90 on VHS or DVD. I have about 45 episodes and watched about 80 at the PALEY CENTER but seeking more to view. Trying to finish a project related to the television series. If anyone has episodes available (other than the common circulating ones such as REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT, THE COMEDIAN and DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES), message me. I will make sure to thank you by name in the acknowledgements if you have an episode I have not seen.

Most recent TV thing I saw was the pilot for a TV series that starred Bette Davis as an agent on Broadway. Might have made a decent TV series but who knows. Gary Merrill, Jack Albertson, Joi Lansing, and Tom Pittman co-starred.

Dubious websites offer for download:

Series 1, Episode 01: Forbidden Area
Series 1, Episode 02: Requiem for a Heavyweight
Series 1, Episode 20: The Comedian
Series 1, Episode 34: Winter Dreams
Series 2, Episode 01: Death Of Manolete
Series 2, Episode 30: The Dungeon
Series 2, Episode 39: A Town Has Turned To Dust
Series 3, Episode 01: A Plot to Kill Stalin
Series 3, Episode 02: The Days of Wine and Roses
Series 3, Episode 07: Heart of Darkness
Series 3, Episode 16: Velvet Alley
Series 3, Episode 35: Killers of Mussolini

Archive.org also has "Bomber's moon".

Wisconsin has some of the above and also Old Man, Project Immortality, and The Raider.
UCLA has two pages of search results, too much to list. And worldcat.org has a lot of hits too (but I believe that includes Wisconsin and UCLA).

Two more that I noticed on download sites:
Portrait of a murderer
The Last Tycoon

You're welcome.

Watched all of those months ago. Many thanks.

One of the two dozen I have yet to view is ALAS, BABYLON. Anyone know where I can watch it? I was told there is a screening scheduled in California later this year and I would like to fly out and watch it if anyone
Knows when and where.

A search shows this reference to UCLA possibly showing it:

"Sometime in the next year, UCLA is likely to screen ALAS, BABYLON as part of several potential series devoted to film preservation and/or live television. It will be a major highlight of whatever approach they take. Its appearance on DVD is more problematic, but discussions are underway and we should never give up hope."

looks like the list at a torrent site I use (I'm quite "familiar" with those uploads). I also have "Last Tycoon" in dvd video. "Portrait of a Murderer" is a divx/xvid, and whomever made it didnt know what they were doing - video plays choppy.
The site might be dubious in the legal sense (sharing en masse), but it's not unsafe in terms of malware/virus.

Finally acquired a copy of "Judgement at Nuremburg" from Playhouse 90. Many thanks to one of the Nitrateville folks for contacting me and providing me with a DVD. They wanted to keep anonymous but I wanted to publicly thank them.
