Spaghetti Tree hoax commercial

Unread post by sepiatone » Sun Aug 23, 2015 9:51 am

C'mon be honest, did you at any time fall for the Spaghetti-grows-on-tree commercial back in the 50s-80s? I wasn't aware of the original April Fools 1957 version but later ones in color were running full steam in the 70s and 80s. I know many remember these commercials. I believe the later ones had to do with a Spaghetti meat sauce or what not.

The original BBC one was not an advert but part of a newsreel broadcast by a broadcaster who had also carried a great air of gravitas from wartime reporting, major national occasions so it probably fooled a good number. At that time spaghetti would not have been commonly eaten by the audience, so they probably had no clue how it was made.
