I had to read Julio Cortázar's short story, Autopista del Sur, when I was in high school. I didn't like it at the time and I thought that it was bad and incoherent.
However, in 2000, it was faithfully turned into a trio of commercials with only a few minor changes. The original story was bad and the ad is among the most self indulgent ever produced... an overproduced commercial by Renault Argentina that totally forgot the car that was selling.
