Samuel Fuller at Columbia

Unread post by Brooksie » Thu Apr 12, 2018 12:09 pm

Here's a cracker of a box set that's just been announced - Samuel Fuller at Columbia. It's not cheap, but there's a ton of extras, and it's good news for everyone who didn't get to see The Power of the Press at Cinecon last year. The full contents:

IT HAPPENED IN HOLLYWOOD (Harry Lachman, 1937)
ADVENTURE IN SAHARA (D Ross Lederman, 1938)
POWER OF THE PRESS (Lew Landers, 1943)
SHOCKPROOF (Douglas Sirk, 1949)
SCANDAL SHEET (Phil Karlson, 1952)
THE CRIMSON KIMONO (Samuel Fuller, 1959)
UNDERWORLD U.S.A. (Samuel Fuller, 1961)

Hey, hello??? I reviewed the set in the "What's the Last Movie You Saw" thread only about four months ago. It's not new. In fact, it's been out there for a few years now.

Geez! Sometimes I get the feeling nobody reads my posts! :(

Perhaps your post was about a standard set? This is a Blu-Ray set, which I should have clarified. It was just announced this morning as a June 2018 release, as per the link I posted above. Power of the Press is indeed available elsewhere, but this is its debut on Blu Ray.

I fought to include the three B-pictures into the set, as well as the six episodes of IRON HORSE he directed (and sometimes wrote). They acceded to the former but not the latter. POWER OF THE PRESS--which is the only newspaper picture to involve both Fuller and Lee Tracy--needs to be more widely seen, especially now.
