Sylvia Chang retrospective at Metrograph

Unread post by Daniel Eagan » Tue May 15, 2018 2:56 pm

Those in NYC can catch the Sylvia Chang retrospective starting Friday at the Metrograph: http://metrograph.com/series/series/156/sylvia-chang" target="_blank

She is a key figure in Asian cinema over the past 40 years, starring in King Hu's Legend of the Mountain, Tsui Hark's Shanghai Blues, Johnnie To's Office (all in the series) as well as writing and directing a half-dozen of her own features, including Tempting Heart, Murmur of the Hearts, and Love Education.

As someone who started working behind the camera back in the 1970s, and who remains a creative force today, she deserves to be much better known.

She will be at screenings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Here is an interview with Sylvia Chang: https://www.filmcomment.com/blog/interv ... via-chang/" target="_blank

It's remarkable how much she accomplished during a period when women were not generally allowed behind the camera.
