Hunter, not Buster, appeared in the (lost) silent - with Keaton pal Viola Dana,
and Red Skelton had the title role in the talkie,
but Keaton did his own skewed version in Free and Easy,
and later played the part on the straw hat circuit.

Having seen Puddin' Head, it looked like Republic were making up the film as they were going along, so I'm not surprised.

Buster worked about a week on Puddin' Head, as one of the small town hillbillies.
