Now that I know who he is, I have looked up more info-
turns out he was, additionally, one of the 36 founders of the Academy (AMPAS)

The second photo is of Milton E. Hoffman, who started at Selznick Pictures and then later became an executive at Famous Players Lasky. He was one of the investors in the Central Motion Picture District, which was the development that built the Mack Sennett Studio in Studio City and intended to build a residential area to serve the workers of the studio. Hoffman Street outside the Studio is named for him.
