It was dropping in and out yesterday evening, but seems to be down altogether this morning.

The search appears to have become unstable as more and more magazines were indexed. The current solution is rebooting the server each morning at 3 am, while the longer term solution is to use multiple, smaller indexes. We hope to implement that approach later this summer.

This will be necessary as we are gradually uploading another 20 years of Variety -through 1948.

I was using it with no problems early this morning. Nice to see MP Heralds added recently!

Down for the count tonight.

And moments ago I ingested enough caffeine to keep me up until dawn so I could do research on the site all night. :!:

How long does the reboot normally take?

I don't know how long it normally takes; I'd guess not more than a few minutes. The site is up and operational now.

I tried to download individual pages from Moving Picture World and got error messages all yesterday.

Most of the time this is resolved within a few hours, but yes - the service has been sporadic at times. Best bet it to wait awhile and try again. As of this posting, it is operational.

One of the best sites on the internet and the most useful.

Going there is like going down the rabbit hole.

It is easy to go there to research one thing and then spend hours browsing through all the tangents there is to get lost in. :D
