Are All Lucille Ricksen's Films Lost?

Unread post by rockynelson » Mon May 16, 2016 5:00 pm

I recently discovered the tragic child star Lucille Ricksen. She made more than 30 films before dying at age 14 from tuberculosis and exhaustion. I would love to see some of her movies but it seems that they are all lost. Does anyone know if ANY of Lucille Ricksen's films still exist?

Thanks, Elizabeth

Her last film, The Denial (1925), partially exists at the George Eastman House.

Behind the Curtain also survives at the George Eastman House in Rochester.

Young Ideas (1923) survives in Amsterdam.

The Rendezvous (1923) survives at Warners.

I don't know about any of her short films.

Here's a link to her 1920 short EDGAR'S HAMLET, which was preserved by the Brussels Cinematek, and was identified at last year's Mostly Lost conference. Her co-stars are Johnny Jones and Buddy Messenger. The Museum of Modern Art has a print of another in the series, EDGAR'S FEAST DAY ('21).

I understand that a print of Judgment of the Storm (1923) is at the at Archives du Film du CNC.

Does anyone have a suggestion on who to contact in France to get the ball rolling on a restoration/preservation?
