Finally had a chance to see this thanks to TCM, fun attempt at a Thin Man-style comedy-mystery, with game turns by Blondell and Melvyn Douglas, plus Donald McBride in full force as Douglas's wisecracking fellow detective. Headed to Nitrateville upon spotting the Murphy bed, figuring it would already be mentioned, and of course it was.
Followed it up immediately with the previous year's Fast Company
, from MGM, another Thin Man-style comedy-mystery with Douglas again, about a couple involved in the deadly and nefarious world of rare book collecting.
It makes me wonder how many times studios tried to reproduce another Thin Man success with Melvyn Douglas standing in for Bill Powell....
