Snub Pollard sighting 1959

Unread post by Hamilton's Grandson » Sun Feb 04, 2018 1:36 pm

I was watching "A Good Day for a Hanging" 1959 as part of a bit of Joseph Hamilton filmography research I have been doing and was surprised to see Snub Pollard as a piano player in the film. Many of the silent film stars that were able to find work years later were relegated to very small roles or even extras.

He's popped up in the odd Al St. John b-western of the "Fuzzy" era. Pleasant to see, rarely gets to say a single word.

His credits after the 40's had him in many of the same roles. Just a character actor with a quick glimpse of him and that was it. True with a lot of performers AFTER their career in film was all but over.

I don't recall the exact title (maybe DON'T KNOCK THE TWIST), but it definitely had Snub ogling a female dancer. This 1962 movie might have been his last appearance,

Snub’s last ever appearance was as atmosphere in an episode of THE RIFLEMAN. Johnny Crawford would bug the Assistant Director to hire silent actors as extras for the show. He also remembers meeting Eva Novak that way. So Snub came to do the show and Johnny hung all over him asking about the old days. It was a Friday and Snub got a call back for Monday but passed away over the weekend. That all is at least how Johnny remembers it.
