Yes, The Devil's Pawn was an alternate release title.

This is actually the German production "Der gelbe Schein", first shown in November 1918. (Source: Lamprecht).

Somehow my original post deleted both references, and was just left with the Negri one. I am wondering how they could both have such similar names in the same year, if it's a case of similar themes, or just to cash in on Negri's name? I wonder if there are other instances of companies releasing two films with the same name in or about the same year :roll:

Both are derived from the same play, which seems to have been quite a success- I think it is more a case of two companies cashing in on the same property.

Thanks- so they're not from the same play but have an element in common. They still do that now.
