Silent directors who remade same title/s as a talkie

Unread post by sepiatone » Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:08 am

The same story as with Tod Browning's London After Midnight(1927)/Mark of the Vampire(1935) or C B DeMille's The Ten Commandments(1923)/The Ten Commandments(1956), both of like titles but differing in some subject matter. Also can be features or shorts.

Frank Tuttle's "Miss Bluebeard"(1925) Bebe Daniels / "Her Wedding Night"(1930) Clara Bow. As both films survive they would make a great double-feature dvd. :)

Didn't we already have a thread on this topic? Somewhere?

Abel Gance with J'ACCUSE in 1919 and 1938 and MATER DOLOROSA in 1917 and 1933.
George Dewhurst made no less than FIVE versions of A SISTER TO ASSIST 'ER in 1922, 1927, 1930, 1938 and 1948!
Victor Saville worked on HINDLE WAKES on 1927, then directed the 1931 remake.
Howard Hawks with THE ROAD TO GLORY in 1926 and 1936, but no similarity other than the titles.

Julien Duvivier's 1925 and 1932 versions of POIL DE CAROTTE. Apparently in the 1950s he wanted to make it yet again, in color and with Jean Gabin as the father.

Cecil B. DeMille filmed The Squaw Man three times, once as a talkie: 1914, 1918, 1931.

Sidney Franklin directed Smilin' Through with each of Hollywood's famous Normas in 1922 and 1932.

Frank Borzage made Secrets in 1924 and 1933.

Also, Ernst Lubitch remade The Marriage Circle (1924) as One Hour with You (1932) and its French equivalent, Une heure près de toi.
