First of all, you'll get the DVD about 2 weeks before it even goes on sale on Amazon. Another perk is that I continue sending updates to project backers long after the DVD is released. You can see the 64 updates sent to backers of the first Accidentally Preserved Kickstarter on this page — that Kickstarter ended in Nov 2012, and the most recent update sent to backers went out a couple weeks ago. The 54 updates sent to Musty Suffer backers between Aug 2013 and this month can be seen here.

Updates I send out include insider info (film finds, festival screenings, launch events) that's snuck out to backers before it gets announced publicly, as well as fun things like links to be able to purchase one of my new releases before I post the official announcement and Amazon page. For example, a few weeks ago, all 277 unique backers from all 3 of my previous Kickstarters (AP, Musty, Perez) were sent an exclusive link to purchase Musty vol 2 at half price a week or two before it went on sale at full price at Amazon.
Fine, fine, I'm in.

Five more days to go...

Since you hold a copy, Lippy, what exactly is on the DVD as far as stars, titles and dates?

I just see mention of The Drews, Jack Duffy, and Arthur Lake in previous posts.

Thank you,

Thank you Ben, may we have another?

Al Christie preferred nice comedies with normal looking people but those Jack Duffys made a lot of coin for Al.

Is that Clarence Wilson playing the dainty proprietor of the restaurant in the Bobby Ray film SERVICE ALA BUNK?

Congratulations Ben, and everyone at Undercrank Productions, on another fine collection! I've watched several of the shorts so far, and am having a good time with it. Whose Baby? is a reminder that Arthur Lake comes off better in silents than in talkies -- it's kind of a relief not to hear his voice -- while A Citrate Special is a remarkable, unforgettable find. I always thought of Thurston Hall as a distinguished, dignified character actor, but after seeing this short I'll never regard him quite the same way, ever again.

P.S. There's a blurb for your advertising: Thurston Hall, As You've Never Seen Him Before!

Mine rolled in as well and the packaging looks first-rate. I'm looking forward to cracking it open before too long. :D

Thanks. Glad you liked the packaging! Hiring a top-notch graphic designer really adds a lot. Marlene Weisman has a real flair for the era, and also did a lot of package/product and logo designs for SNL and Letterman back in the '90s.

The films on the DVD are pretty good, too. ;) Kudos to Ralph Celentano, Rob Farr, Shane Fleming and Dennis Atkinson for providing rarities from their collections to the project.

Not a complaint but did anyone notice in the menu that when the titles came up against the green background they were blurry and then after a second or 2 cleared up? Or is it my ancient DVD player?

The Arthur Lake Whose Baby? was very funny.

Ed,

What you are noticing is an artifact from the "push" motion transition between menus that is in my authoring program. It is present in volume one and two as well. I like the idea of the film strip sliding up and down enough to put up with the artifact. None of my other releases have motion transitions, and I may do away with this transition for future volumes of Accidentally Preserved, if I wind up doing any more. Nothing wrong with your DVD player.

Ben, I liked the up and down motion. I thought it was clever.

I finished the disc today -- really enjoyed it, some great stuff. Highlights for me included: Jack Duffy, a hoot in two of the shorts; Mr and Mrs Sidney Drew, with Mr just gaga over Mrs; and the Arthur Lake short, which reminded me a little of Charley Chase. The Billy Barry short is surreal, and, in a class all by itself is A Citrate Special, which is, indeed, very special.

I hope Ben will be able to do more of these. I'm in, if he can!

dgunning, glad you enjoyed the DVD. I have plans for another volume in 2016.Yeah, so far the Lake short seems to be everyone's top pick. It IS a really good short, and the 2 Christies on the disc are really good as well. Very pleased with the Drews short myself, having spent several hours stabilizing every shot in it.

The press release goes out this week, and release date on Amazon is Sept 29 (although CreateSpace doesn't really allow you to set the date).

Now that I've seen everything on the disc, I'd also single out Joe Rock's The Whirlwind as a favorite. The windstorm effects are funny and surreal, and impressively staged for a short comedy. And I love the finale, when Joe sails through the storm using an improvised parachute.

Anyhow, good work, Ben & Co.! Nice to hear that we can look forward to another edition in the near future.

Yeah, I really like the Rock short, too. It's from a Kodascope printed in 1925, the year the library launched. Kudos to Nitratevillain Roger P for turning up the print. He sold it to me with the proviso that it be made available in some way so people can see it. There is one other extant print of the film, a nitrate with French titles at LoC. Kodascope offered several of this Joe Rock series so hopefully more of them will turn up.
