Kickstarter to release "Kidnapped" (1917)

Unread post by Movies Silently » Mon Nov 06, 2017 9:52 am

Good morning, I'm Fritzi from moviessilently.com and I have launched my first Kickstarter. I want to release the 1917 Edison version of Kidnapped on DVD along with the four short films that accompanied it as part of the Conquest program. This will be a night at the movies EXACTLY as seen by American audiences 100 years ago.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17 ... lms-on-dvd" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

All of the details are on the Kickstarter page (well, I did my best) but let me know if you have any questions!

Ben Model has signed on to score the films, so the music will be top notch. The films are held by the Library of Congress on 16mm.

Just pledged. This is a fun idea-- an exact reproduction of an entire program of films as released by Edison back in the day.

Backed because it's apparently the only known copy.
Let's get it out there.

Thank you, Rick!

As an added bonus, it's a solid little swashbuckler. Director Alan Crosland shows a flair for swords and costumes early in his career.

Definitely in! Great to see a newbie doing a Kickstarter. I'll even donate my pirate song that didn't get used for Buried Treasure. I'm sure Ben will jump at it......

I would have preferred the Second Forum Films Program in order to see that enticing short movie called He Couldn't Get It Up In the Morning, but I'll sign up for it anyway.

What's that you say? It's actually He Couldn't Get Up In the Morning? Oh. There's a difference? Never mind... I'll still support it.

It had gotten a bit over $1K when I pledged (#34) and now it's only about $1300 shy of its $5500 goal. Well done!

Pete and Paul: Thanks so much for backing!
Saint-Just: Isn't it amazing?
Bob: I'll need to adjourn to my mountain lair and consider this question with my mad housekeeper. Disclosure: I am also the mad housekeeper.

Wow! I am still kind of in shock regarding the overwhelming positive response. It's so much more than I ever hoped for. Thanks, everyone!

I'm in! I often try to watch films that were originally shown together, or at least ones that may have been shown together. Looking forward to it!!

PS: Thank you Ben for including this in your email newsletter or I would have missed it completely. I need to get better at checking the Kickstarter thread.

Ben's email newsletter is the same place I heard about it, so double thanks. Ben knows how to get the word out.
