How to do a copyright search on a French early sound film?

Unread post by Darren Nemeth » Mon Aug 11, 2008 3:00 am

I am interested in finding out if the French film La Bête errante (1932) (English translation: The Wandering Beast) is public domain or still under copyright. IMDB link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0201502/

This was an early Pathé-Natan sound film.

However, I don't know where to start. Any suggestions where I can look?

There seems to be a paid service that verifies this in France. It doesn't absolve any liability, but it would go a long way. I came acros it when searching for an early French film. But I'd have to retrace my steps before I can find the information.

A quick search says the Cinematheque Francais has a few pictures of it. And another archive has the trailer, if that is any help.
