eh44returns

Unread post by earlytalkiebuffRob » Thu Apr 13, 2017 12:49 pm

In conversation with a customer today I discovered that he was none other than 'eh44returns', the gentleman who has been posting unusual British movies onto YouTube. I was pleased to tell him of the interest he has sparked and of the appreciation of others on this site for his sterling efforts.

Yes, indeed! I had decided I wanted to see more British movies of the 1930s, with an eye to quota quickies, and he has made them available.

Are those films he posts no longer under copyright?

Whilst I admire the fellah for trying to get the films out there to be seen, one has to be careful in order that the Old Bill don't come knocking.

(The stuff I put up on You Tube is in a "private section" . I only give out the address to Nitratevillains and select others who may be interested in the rot I go on about).

eh44 posts some of the George Arliss British films so naturally he has become one of my heroes.

All the films posted, are, to the best of his knowledge, suitable for uploading. He keeps watch for any new releases and, if any of his films are to be issued, he will pull them. He has no desire to get into any trouble, simply posting films recorded from TV which one cannot actually purchase.

There's a veritable treasure-trove of old British movies on YT as searching for them there using that phrase shows. I see no sign of eh44 though either in that search or a specific search for him. Maybe he's set his channel to private? Either that or my google-fu is not as powerful as I'd thought.

He has had one strike against him and is having to be very cautious

It's possible the strike may be removed as it appears there was a confusion over two films with the same title (THIRD TIME LUCKY)...

EH44 explains what the complaint was against him in his latest posting:
Events moved fast yesterday! The copyright strike on this channel was removed by Odeon Entertainment after they admitted that a mistake had been made, realizing that the 1931 film "Third Time Lucky" was NOT the film they were releasing on dvd in the UK on 1st May!!
I would guess this is the 1949 movie starring Glynis Johns, produced by Zampi. He goes on to explain his new policy, intended to keep on offering these probably orphaned films:
I have thought again about the policy about how to run this channel, and what I have decided is that it could be risky to have a large number of films visible on the channel unless I'm pretty sure that they qualify as "orphan works", but rather than removing them permanently they will move to being unlisted - this means they can still be accessed, provided you save the page bookmark before they disappear. I hope this is clear and a helpful way forward, films will still be removed permanently if an official dvd release is announced.
which means you're going to have to check in frequently to see what's available before it goes on the dark. I know I intend to; lots of good stuff there and it means that I don't have to go looking for more Old Mother Riley movies to continue my survey of British films from the era.

Hi,

I was looking at the youtube account for eh44returns because I was looking for 'Before I Wake' (1954). It had been uploaded but only for 48hours.

I've been looking everywhere for two films: 'Before I Wake' (1954) and 'It Started in Paradise' (1952) - but I've had no luck.

If anybody could point me in the direction of somewhere to see these two films, I'd be really grateful.

I think that eh44returns will re-post a movie on request; as long as a copyright owner has not objected.
So, post a request to him/her on one of his postings, or maybe there is a link.

Both films are around in the gray market. Just search on Yahoo the title with year and DVD and some stuff comes up.

EH44returns posted this short video to Youtube today. To those who, like I, am grateful for his efforts, it's worth watching.

He's posted a lot of interesting films.... YT is almost worthless at this point. It's all scam links.
