Clark and McCullough, Gershwin in 1929

Unread post by The Blackbird » Sun Jan 14, 2018 2:23 pm

Here's a rare treat: film of George Gershwin, Bobby Clark and Paul McCullough rehearsing at the Times Square Theatre in New York for STRIKE UP THE BAND in late 1929. I'm guessing this is the only behind-the-scenes footage of McCullough in existence.

I could be misremembering, but I think I recall this footage from the Library of Congress' permanent exhibition on the Gershwins, which is a must-see if you are in the neighbourhood.

I used to have the soundtrack to this film on a Fox Movietone LP of Gershwin's piano roll recordings, and I often wondered what the film itself looked like. Now I know -- thanks much!
