That Hope set is tempting (it's $17 on Amazon.ca, still not a bad price), although annoyingly there's a newer Hope set from Universal that has 21 features, including a few I have never seen (Variety Girl, Louisiana Purchase) that aren't on the 10-film set. Only problem is, it's $66 (still not bad at just over $3 per film, and only $42 at Amazon US).

VCI Home Entertainment is having a $10 blu-ray sale, this includes their recent releases of One Million B.C. and Topper.

Weirdly, neither of those titles are listed on the main page for the blu-ray sale (which does include the Alistair Sim A Christmas Carol, The Brave One, Dark Star, City of the Dead (a.k.a. Horror Hotel), Gorgo, White Zombie, the U.K. comedy Genevieve, some Dirk Bogarde titles and more), but if you search for them individually, they should come up for the $10 price.

Also, from what I've read from Glenn "DVD Savant" Erickson, VCI is now shipping the corrected master version of One Million B.C.

It's $32.21 on Amazon.ca, which isn't a bad deal with the exchange. That's about as much as I paid for blu-rays of Duel and Sugarland Express on their own.

Here I go, pre-spending my tax rebate...and here comes Night of the Living Dead (been waiting for a decent copy for what feels like decades), A Touch of Zen and Senso.

It's for in-stock items only, folks - so anyone who wanted the Pabst films or King of Jazz is out of luck for now.

That's not correct. I ordered both Pabst films and they are $14.97 after the discount is applied, same as the other in-stock films. I did not order King of Jazz but the discount applies to it, too.

I found out by accident that it works, but there's a trick to it . . .

Once, I had planned to preorder a DVD from Criterion, but never completed the order, and I left it in my cart. A few days later, Criterion held their semiannual flash sale. I completed my order, and left the yet-to-be-released DVD in my cart to see what would happen. Turned out THEY HONORED THE SALE PRICE ON THAT DVD! I had to wait till it was officially released to get my complete order (so I could get free shipping), but it went through!

You see what the trick is -- you have to anticipate the sale before it actually happens, and have your preorders in your cart beforehand. If you leave items in your Criterion cart, they will stay there for about a week before they are dropped, but you have to keep checking.

Then again, for all I know, it might have been a fluke, and not happen again. Obviously, it's too late to try it at this flash sale, but try it with your preorders at their next flash sale (probably around the end of September or beginning of October), and see what happens. You never know . . .

Or the Barnes and Noble Criterion sale, which happens around the end of March or beginning of April.

Last year, the Criterion sales at B&N were in July and November, so get ready.

During the Criterion sales, I know if you put an item in your B&N cart before they run out of stock, you can still get it at the sale price, as long as you complete your order and have it sent all at once when they restock. But a lot of the time, they get new stock before the sale ends, so it really isn't an issue. It doesn't work with preorders, though.

If only that trick worked with out-of-print Criterion titles!

Kino-Lorber has a February sale on right now, with many Studio Classics titles on blu-ray marked down to $11 or less.

Whether it's After the Fox or The Beautiful Blonde From Bashful Bend, they've got you covered. The Garden of Allah and Hangover Square are among these titles too.

Oldies.com has a handful of the deluxe Ford at Fox box sets (21 discs!) for $60. I think original list was something like $300. Worth getting for sure!

An even better deal, to be sure! I guess once a title has been remaindered, all bets are off.

Did the same thing ever happen to the Murnau & Borzage at Fox set?

It looks like Warner Archives has started another one of their 4 for $44 sales. It appears that additional titles over and above 4 are also $11 and that shipping is free. (Finally gonna pick up my copy of The Sea Wolf blu ray -- and a few other things).

"Bob Hope: The Ultimate Movie Collection" (21 films plus the American Masters documentary on him) is currently down to $19.99 at Amazon. I'm pretty sure this is the lowest it has been.
