Embedded Img links no longer displaying images

Unread post by Christopher Jacobs » Sat Apr 30, 2016 12:32 pm

I've noticed that since yesterday, all the boxcover images I embedded in the "Old Movies in HD" thread are now showing up as a small box with an X in the image area instead of displaying the image. If I right-click and choose "show picture" nothing changes, but if I right click, choose "Properties" and copy the URL, and paste it in my browser window, it takes me to the image file, displaying the image. Then when I return to the NitrateVille thread, the image suddenly shows up again. But after several minutes to an hour or two, going back to the thread later it again shows just the little black "x" box replacing the image. Every now and then one or two images remains displayed, however, which makes no sense to me. (Almost all of these images are the boxcover images from the Blu-ray.com page for those films.)

Posting a new review today, the images showed up just fine when I previewed the post, but once I actually submitted it each image was again replaced by the "x" box.

Is this just a problem with my browser (IE 11.0.3), or did Blu-ray.com's latest update remove the ability to post images directly from their site, or has the NitrateVille site's handling of the links somehow changed in the past couple of days?

If they were all hosted by blu-ray.com, then one of two things has happened:

1) They figured out that a lot of requests to their server were coming from here, and blocked us
2) They changed something on their end, which broke all those links

Probably just the latter, because I doubt one thread here was ever that much traffic for them, but either way, this is why it's a bad idea to embed images hosted by someone else, the images' continued existence is out of your control (and in some eyes, it's stealing bandwidth/server resources someone else is paying for; in extreme cases sites have reacted to that by replacing the image with pornography or something else to embarrass the bandwidth-purloiner). I strongly recommend grabbing the images and uploading to something you control, such as a free Flickr account, and then embedding from there.

The links to the photos still work. I can type the URL http://images.static-bluray.com/movies/ ... _large.jpg" target="_blank in my browser, and still see the image. They are blocking Nitrateville from displaying their photos. I can't see the images in Firefox or Internet Explorer.
