FWIW, a single reel (R5) survives from Marion's last Cosmopolitan/Paramount release, Adam and Eva. It's from 1923 but I don't believe it was renewed. LOC has it.

With a week to donate to this Kickstarter project, money raised has exceeded $10,200 -- three times the amount needed to get it off the ground. I'm in and am particularly grateful to the people who have donated as little as $2; that's not enough to get a copy, but these folks clearly wish to contribute, even if they don't get a copy.

Have you taken the opportunity to put your money where your mouth is,when you say that some one should do something about getting these movies out?

Ben,

:? I still intend to contribute, but I am limited to mailing a check at present. Where do I send it too? I'll pledge at least $65.00 for this one and another $65.00 for Eric Grayson's endeavor. Wish I could pledge allot more.

*** THIS JUST IN ***

The original handscheigl will be reinstated to the climactic chase sequence! See knights on horseback carrying amber-blazing torches through the blue-toned/"biscuit"-tinted forest!! Digital handscheigl work will be done by Jack Theakston.

Kickstarter ends Weds April 13 at 12 noon (EDT).

Only two days left to go if you wish to contribute to this project. I like to imagine that, with 297 contributors, someone is holding off so he can be #300. I think it would be much more interesting to contribute enough to bring the total to $12,000,which you can do now if you like.

I know that I am more impressed by the people who can't afford $25 for a dvd, but nonetheless throw in as little as $2.

just learned that the 1921 Thomas Meighan feature, THE CONQUEST OF CANAAN, was found in past 5-10 years and resides at LOC.

If anyone is willing to do the legwork, I would certainly support a kickstarter for more Meighan.

The IMDb listing for CANAAN says "Considered to be lost until 2010. A print was found in Gosfilmofond, the Russian state film archive and a digital copy was presented to the Library of Congress on 20 Oct 2010."

FYI the "digital copies" that LoC got in that acquisition are DVDs, and not 2K or HD full-res files. Unless I'm remembering incorrectly those DVD's are for reference viewing...but you should double-check. The films may or may not have (Russian) flash-titles.

Bob,

:( I was waiting for a mailing address via the PM's. I can't contribute with Paypal. Never heard back anything. I had to mail my contribution in to Ed for THE DUKES AND DRAKES project as well.

Ben,

:o That's exciting about the restored Stencil color footage! Incidentally, are you pitching this to TCM?

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me. For the last few weeks I have been hit with the dreaded Modelvirus!

The damn thing is ubiquitous and plagues me here, on FB and even in my email! It must be eradicated. Does anyone have the cure to this constant irritant? I paid the requested blackmail and still he haunts me.... :(

Since Ben is busy wiring money to the Cayman Islands, I will report that a total of 317 people pledged a total of $11,928. Current upgrades to the project will include the handschleigl work on the climax, digitalized by Jack Theakson and booklet written by.... danged if I can remember who, but I'm sure it will be great. Just so long as I don't have to remember how to spell handschleigl.

Bob, thanks for reporting the tally. I was showing my students at Wesleyan "Mother", and excerpt from "Potemkin", and Buñuel's "Un Chien Andelou"

Speaking of Marion Davies, I just got an email from Warner Archive Collection stating her first talkie feature, Marianne (1929) is now available.

Found this article about the New York premiere of When Knighthood Was in Flower. It mentions a score written by William Frederick Peters and two songs written by Victor Herbert. Found the "When Knighthood Was in Flower" waltz

But I couldn't find the "Marion Davies March."

Words by William LeBaron, who would go on to become a RKO executive.
