It was reported at the Classic Horror Film Board, that someone from Warners said, "no."

Sorry.

So essentially it's the same print that's been run on TCM in recent years? I guess I'll wait for review from DVD Beaver or CineSavant before I shell out for a copy.

The color print exists :

"Preservation
Until recently only one reel with a color sequence was thought to have survived, in the collection of the UCLA Film and Television Archive.

In 2013, Deborah Stoiber from the George Eastman House film archive visited Prague to examine the sole existing color copy of The Mysterious Island. The U.S. film experts, in cooperation with the Czech National Film Archive, restored the color print of The Mysterious Island.[2] After the complete Technicolor print was discovered in Prague in December 2013, a new print of the film premiered at the 33rd Pordenone Silent Film Festival in October 2014."

Footage image samples of UCLA print (they have just reel one while Czech National Film Archive have the complete print) :

Why so many original 2 color technicolor prints have strong color cast? It was suposed to not fade...
Many stils from technicolor prints looks almost monochromatic. I hope a restoration can bring the colors better than thse samples.

I wondered if they shot at same time the takes, using 2 cameras, one B&W and the technicolor camera by side. But since technicolor system (even 2 color technicolor) demand special lighting and special make-up, It was probably shot in different takes or even different days.
Keep thinking...

Here is the reply from Warner Archive:

Warner Archive Collection We are aware of the Czech print discovered a few years ago, but access to the material and any kind of restoration are theoretical at this point. We wanted to make the film available in its present state for DVD release, with the possibility of something more as a hope for the future. Thanks.

Rats....I gave up on this from Warner and bought the German DVD a few months ago. Oh well, I guess I can compare the two releases while we wait for Warner to do a proper color restoration a dozen years from now.

We're all craving Snitz Edwards in living colour, the way he was always meant to be seen!

Maybe this should be called "two-ply" Technicolor instead of two-strip.
